Tuition per student / participant

Basic, advanced and medical theory

TUITION FEES (from 1 January 2010):

Total cost of course: £3,574.47 + VAT @ 17.5% - £4,200.

Basic theory and Advanced theory/medical £525 (inc. VAT @ 15%) initial payment is 3 months’ fees with the balance payable as to £175 (inc. VAT @ 17.5%) per calendar month for 21 months, payable monthly in advance by standing order, the first instalment payable at beginning of the fourth calendar month.

Students/participants have use of SCRTS’s machine for two years (subject to availability as stated above), but students/participants are advised to obtain the student version of their chosen software just prior to completion of basic theory.

A discount of 15% off the advanced theory/medical course fees will be given should the student purchases his/her own computer-compatible shorthand machine and return any current loan machine to SCRTS. The monthly fees would, therefore, reduce to £148.75p, inclusive of VAT, for each complete month once the loan machine is returned.

Should a student complete the course before 24 months, the balance of fees is still due and payable. The monthly instalment plan is a concession to enable students to fund their training. All fees quoted are inclusive of VAT and discounts are applied before VAT is calculated. Tuition fees may be reduced by up to 5% for six or more students/participants entering the course together at the same location. Should students/participants fall below six persons the above-mentioned discount will not be maintained and the amount payable will revert to the full fee for the remainder of the course. Replacement students/participants will be accepted on the course upon payment of a start-up fee of £525 (inclusive of VAT). Thereafter the replacement student/participant’s monthly fee will be payable.

Students must give one calendar month's notice in writing, or one month’s fee in lieu of notice, to withdraw from course. All loan equipment and tutorial books/digital audio recordings to be returned in good order with such notice and, upon such receipt, no more monthly fees will be payable. In the event a student/participant discontinues the course, there shall be no obligation to pay any monthly instalments coming due after written notification of the student/participant’s election to discontinue the course and the return of all loan equipment/tutorial.

Professional and Career Development Loans are bank loans that can be used to help pay for work related learning.  You can borrow between £300 and £10,000 to help support the cost of up to two years of learning (or three years if it includes one year’s relevant unpaid practical work).  The Young People’s Learning Agency will pay the interest on the loan while you are learning and for one month afterwards.  The loan can be used to pay course fees or other costs such as travel and living expenses.  You can also use the loan to supplement other forms of support such as grants or bursaries.  Because the Professional and Career Development Loan is a commercial loan product, they should only be considered as an option once all other student funding options have been investigated.  For further information on financial assistance to support your learning, please visit www.direct.gov.uk/adultlearning or contact Careers Advice on 0800 100 900.  Our learning provider registration number is:: 6746.

Do please remember that a loan of any sort has to be paid back.

Discounts

Tuition fees may be reduced by up to 5% for six or more students/ participants entering the course together at the same location. Should students/participants fall below six persons the above discount will not be maintained and the amount payable will revert to the full fee for the remainder of the course. Replacement students/participants will be accepted on the course upon payment of a start-up fee of £525  (inclusive of VAT). Thereafter the replacement student/participant’s monthly fee will be payable.

If beginning students/participants provide their own computerised Steno machine a discount of 15% will be allowable off the fees.

Withdrawal

Students must give one calendar month's notice in writing, or one month’s fee in lieu of notice, to withdraw from course. All loan equipment and tutorial books/digital audio recordings to be returned in good order with such notice and, upon such receipt, no more monthly fees will be payable.  In the event a student/participant discontinues the course, there shall be no obligation to pay any monthly instalments coming due after written notification of the student/participant’s election to discontinue the course and the return of all loan equipment/tutorial.  Any refund of any fees paid in advance will be at the Principal’s discretion, but would usually be for any full months' of tutorial remaining after the expiry of any written notice and the return of all loan equipment/tutorial.

Students from abroad

Cost of course is £4,500 per student payable as to £1,000 down and the balance of £3,500 payable by seven quarterly (in advance) instalments of £500. Price is per student and is inclusive of VAT, but does NOT include loan of a machine.  Students must purchase their own machine. Arrangements will be by agreement as to the Principal travelling to the country of the student to start them up with further visits to be by arrangement.  .  Please note that students in Jersey (Channel Islands) are zero rated for VAT so the cost of the course would be £3,829.78; the deposit and instalments would be reduced accordingly.
